The S&P 500 Is Now Live on Breakout

The S&P 500 is now live on Breakout. Trade it 24/7 with 5x leverage and a $1,000,000 position cap, from the same account you use for crypto.

Trade the S&P 500 with Breakout’s capital, 24/7, at 5x leverage with a $1,000,000 max position. This listing joins the Nasdaq 100 (XYZ100) and every crypto instrument in the Terminal.

Breakout’s moves into TradFi just keep coming! As of today, you can trade the S&P 500, our second equity index in the Breakout Terminal, under the ticker S&P500.

This comes just two weeks after we added the Nasdaq 100 (and then cranked up its max position and leverage days later).

Trade it 24/7 with the same simple rules, same fees, and same order types as every other asset on Breakout.

How the S&P 500 works on Breakout

The S&P 500 tracks 500 of the largest companies listed on US exchanges, weighted by market value. It is the default answer to “how did the market do today”: the broadest, most watched measure of US equities there is. On Breakout you trade the index price, not the shares behind it: no dividends, no shareholder rights, nothing to take delivery of. A position is a view on the index moving up or down, long or short.

Trading an index elsewhere usually means trading its session. Prop firms that list equity indexes tend to enforce market hours: flat by the close, out for the weekend, back in at the open. None of that applies here. The S&P500 prices 24/7 on Breakout, with no forced end-of-day close, no daily settlement, and no rule against holding over the weekend or through news. If your read needs five days to play out, you can give it five days, next to your BTC positions, in one account.

Your Breakout account terms hold as they are. The daily loss and max drawdown limits you already trade under, on-demand payouts, and the 80% profit split (90% available) apply to the S&P500 exactly as they do to every other instrument.

Full size from day one

When we launched the Nasdaq 100 (XYZ100) on Breakout, it listed at 2x leverage with a $100K position cap. Just one week later, we moved it to 5x and $1,000,000 once it had ‘bedded in.’ The S&P 500 skips the waiting room. It launches at 5x leverage with a $1,000,000 maximum position size, the same tier as BTC, ETH, and the Nasdaq 100, the largest instruments on Breakout.

At 5x, a $100,000 position in the S&P500 takes $20,000 of account capital, and the full $1,000,000 cap is reachable on a $200,000 funded account. Leverage is auto-applied here like everywhere else on Breakout; there is no setting to change.

One reminder before you reach for that ceiling: your daily loss limit does not scale with your leverage. Size that felt fine at 2x on an index can eat a day’s allowance in one wrong-way move at 5x, so go in aware of your strategy and treat the max like room to work, not necessarily a target.

Pricing never stops. The underlying market does.

Like everything on Breakout, the S&P500 prices around the clock, seven days a week. The index it tracks keeps market hours: 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM ET, Monday through Friday. Outside those hours the instrument keeps pricing through a protected pricing model, and it behaves differently when the underlying market is closed.

Spreads widen overnight and on weekends, so the same size costs more to get into and out of during the quiet windows. And because the S&P500 has its own price discovery within the Breakout trading environment, its price can differ from the index value you see on third-party platforms. The gap is usually widest outside market hours, and prices can move sharply when the underlying market reopens. Trade smaller in the thin windows and expect the reopen to gap.

Common questions

What leverage does the S&P500 trade at?

5x from day one. Leverage on Breakout is auto-applied on every instrument, so there is no setting to adjust.

What is the maximum position size?

$1,000,000 in notional value per trader, the same cap as BTC, ETH, and the Nasdaq 100. Confirm it on the full symbol list.

When can I trade it?

24/7 in the Breakout Terminal. The underlying index is calculated 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM ET, Monday through Friday, so expect wider spreads and thinner conditions outside those hours.

Do I need a new account?

No. The S&P500 is live on evaluation and funded accounts, next to every instrument already in the Terminal.

How is it different from the Nasdaq 100 on Breakout?

The trading conditions match exactly: 5x leverage, a $1,000,000 position cap, 24/7 pricing. The indexes do not. The S&P 500 covers 500 of the largest US companies across every sector, the broad market in one number. The Nasdaq 100 tracks the 100 largest non-financial companies listed on the Nasdaq stock exchange, which tilts it hard toward tech. The two tend to move together, but the tech concentration usually makes the Nasdaq 100 the faster mover in both directions. Trade whichever fits your read, or both from the same account.

The S&P 500 makes two equity indexes on Breakout, and more markets are coming. New here? Start with how funded trading works, then buy an evaluation when you are ready.

Breakout's evaluation program is intentionally rigorous and designed to verify a trader's risk-management skill and strategy discipline before any proprietary capital is allocated by Payward Oceanic Ltd. Most applicants do not pass on their first attempt and there is no guarantee that your performance will improve or that you will pass any future evaluations. Prospective traders should purchase an evaluation only if they are confident in their trading ability and knowingly accept the risk of not qualifying for a funded account. Evaluation fees are non-refundable for each attempt once trading begins, regardless of outcome. See breakoutprop.com for more disclosures.
